I became interested in the environment when I was about 13, when one day I thought to myself: "Humans can be so cruel to the environment!" I started thinking about it a lot after that, and one simple idea turned into my newfound passion. Soon, I found that I could not sit back while the environment was dying before my eyes. I had to do something!
Over time, I started to alter my ways to become more eco-friendly. I wasted less and only went shopping when I needed it. I used less water for showers and frivolosity (is that a word?). I adopted a vegan diet. But for me, all this wasn't enough.
Some people feel the need to make a difference. These people have gone on to be activists, missionaries, etc. I am not trying to say that I'm amazing or anything, but I feel that if I work hard enough and focus my energies, I can do something major. Because of this, I do my best to go to environmental conferences, summits, and any other activist activities I can handle. I am also a member of the Ontario Nature Youth Council. And, of course, I have my blogs, http://www.hugatreetodayseriously.blogspot.com/ , and http://www.theanimalrightsactionsite.blogspot.com/ .
Now every decision I make-- what I buy, say, think, wear, eat, do-- is based on animals and the environment. If you asked me what my passion was, I'd say, "Animals, nature, and Harry Potter!"
Here are some of my other hobbies:
- music (piano and guitar; playing and composing)
- reading (history, Harry Potter, crazily imaginative fiction, ethics, the environment)
- power-walking outdoors
- schoolwork (I spend so much time doing it I had to add it to the list!)
- other stuff.
Please use this information to help you decide how you can make a difference in the world!
